Every year on 21 October, India observes Police Commemoration Day (पुलिस स्मृति दिवस) to remember the brave police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty. The day traces back to 1959, when 10 Indian policemen were martyred at Hot Springs, Ladakh, while protecting our borders. Since then, the nation pays solemn tribute to all police heroes who safeguard law, order, and the dignity of citizens.
At Human Rights and Social Justice Mission (HRSJM), we stand in deep gratitude to the men and women of the police forces who uphold the Constitution, protect fundamental rights, and keep communities safe—often at great personal risk.
Why This Day Matters
-
Remembrance: Saluting the supreme sacrifice of police martyrs across the country.
-
Respect for Rule of Law: Recognizing the force that keeps everyday life secure and orderly.
-
Public–Police Partnership: Encouraging trust, transparency, and community policing.
-
Human Rights Lens: Promoting policing that is both effective and rights-respecting, aligning with constitutional values.
The Spirit of Service
Police personnel work through long shifts, emergencies, natural disasters, cybercrime, traffic safety, and community disputes. Their role isn’t only enforcement—it is problem-solving, mediation, and public service. In today’s complex environment, they manage technology-enabled crimes, disasters, and social tensions with professionalism and restraint.
“निष्ठा, कर्तव्यपरायणता और अनुशासन—इन्हीं मूल्यों पर हमारा सुरक्षा-वचन टिका है।”
